The Conference of Mayors here has urged the State government to provide compensation to Corporations for the loss they have suffered following the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

With the introduction of GST, local bodies lost their right to collect entertainment and advertisement taxes. The State government should extend the compensation for the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 fiscal, the meet demanded.

The other demands raised by the conference include creation of posts of mechanical and electrical engineers in local bodies and permission to release ₹50 lakh each from own funds of Corporations for the construction of Mayor’s house in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kozhikode Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain, Thrissur Mayor Ajitha Vijayan, Kollam Mayor V. Rajendrababu, and Kannur Mayor E.P. Latha attended the conference.
