District Collector M. G. Rajamanickam has urged the government to review its decision to acquire about 300 acres at Veliyathunadu in Karumaloor village near Aluva for setting up an industrial park of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra). The request was made based on the memorandum submitted by the panchayat committee and local residents against acquiring land for the project.

An official release said the proposed land included paddy fields and homes of the residents. The local body representatives and residents had pointed out that the industrial park project would destroy the paddy fields and violate the rules regarding protection of wetlands.
