Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will on Sunday noon inaugurate the Kochi metro police station near the Cusat metro station at Kalamassery.
The event will see Kochi Metro Rail Limited managing director A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish hand over the key to State Police Chief Loknath Behera. The police station has been set up exclusively to maintain law and order on the metro rail stretch between Aluva and Pettah. At present, any offence or crime reported inside metro trains and stations are dealt by police stations in the respective areas.
With the launch of the station, which has jurisdiction over the metro corridor and the coach repair yard at Muttom, such cases will be directly handled by metro police personnel.
The station will be headed by an official of the rank of Inspector. The personnel will be given specialised training in dealing with security issues on metro trains and detection of explosives. They will also undergo training in handling modern communication devices.
On Sunday evening, the Chief Minister will launch the Autorickshaw Cooperative Society formed by autorickshaw trade unions at a function at Durbar Hall Ground.
