Cashier charged with cheating

The Maradu police on Thursday arrested a person on the charge of stealing gold and money kept in the strongroom of the cooperative bank that employed him.

The arrested is Vinod Kumar of Eroor. According to the police, the accused stole gold ornaments measuring 280 grams and ₹10.89 lakh from the strongroom of the Poonithura Service Cooperative Bank where he was a cashier.

The alleged fraud came to light when people who had pledged ornaments came to take them back. The accused was charged under IPC Sections 408 (Criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 381 (Theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master). He was produced in court and remanded.
