Marking the beginning of eco-friendly election practices, CPI(M) and Congress leaders on Wednesday removed flex boards that were used for campaign in the city.

CPI(M) polit bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan had given a call through his Facebook page for removal of flex boards and other campaign materials. Mr. Vijayan had also suggested converting flex sheets into grow bags in which vegetables could be cultivated.

The CPI(M) launched the initiative in Kalamassery constituency on Wednesday. Party district secretary P. Rajeev inaugurated the programme. The LDF candidate in the constituency, A.M. Yusuf, and party Kalamassery area secretary A. Zakkeer Hussain were present.

Party district secretariat member P.M. Ismail led the efforts in Muvattupuzha. CPI(M) district committee member C.K. Pareeth, and M. Anilkumar, LDF candidate in Ernakulam constituency, led the cleanliness drive in Aluva and Ernakulam respectively.

P.T. Thomas, the UDF candidate in Thrikkakara, who initiated the drive on his own on Tuesday, promised to remove all flex boards used for his campaign in a week. Mayor Soumini Jain and some Congress workers accompanied him during the initiative. He launched the programme by removing campaign materials from an apartment complex at Panampilly Nagar.
