Appointment to post of lecturer challenged

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - KOCHI:

A visually challenged woman who appeared for an interview to the post of lecturer in law reserved for disabled persons in Kannur University on Wednesday appeared in person before the Kerala High Court and challenged the appointment of another woman to the post.

Prasanna Kumari, 40, of Chottanikkara argued that she had applied for the post of lecturer in law, reserved for the physically challenged, in response to a notification issued by Kannur University on 2008.

According to her, in response to a memo issued by the university, she had appeared for an interview on October 5, 2011.

The interview board had then asked questions about her age. However, even one year after the interview she had not received any information.

She later filed an RTI application, and received a reply that one Kavitha Balakrishnan had been appointed on December 21, 2011.

She sought to quash the appointment and a direction to the university to consider her for the post.
