Actor Mohankumar dead

Theatre artiste K. Mohankumar died at a private hospital here this morning. He was 61.

He hailed from Padanayarkulangara in Karunagappally and was staying at an apartment at Thamarakulangara, Tripunithura. He was admitted to the hospital here on Saturday.

He started his acting career with leading troupes like Changanasserry Geetha, the KPAC, and Kalidasa Kalakendram and then started his own troupe, ‘Janani Kalamandir'. Mohankumar wrote plays like Sreeramapurath Warrier and Chakram Ivide Thiriyunnu .

He married Sobha, daughter of thespian Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair, whom he met during his career at the KPAC and she acted in all his plays. The couple have two sons, Vinu Mohan and Anu Mohan, both cine actors. Mohankumar played the lead role in the film Matsaram and acted in films like Chakravakom (along with Prem Nazir), Radha Enna Pennkutty , Chillu , Thanmathra , Nivedyam , and Chattambinadu . He also acted in several documentary films.
