Akshay Manoj cannot recollect on how many exam days he had undergone dialysis. But, the boy beat all odds and earned 70% marks in the SSLC examinations, the results of which were declared on Thursday morning.

A Class X student of Government High School, Kuttumassery, Akshay was on cloud nine as family members and teachers praised him for the achievement.

“I feel happy and would like to thank all those who helped me achieve this result,” he said.

Akshay was diagnosed with kidney ailments at the age of three. “He started undergoing dialysis at the District Government Hospital in Aluva one-and-a-half years back,” said Manoj, Akshay’s father, a resident of Marampilly near North Vazhakulam here. Akshay, who had to undergo dialysis three days a week, agreed to face the SSLC examination despite the serious ailment.

“We used to be at the hospital by 8 a.m. on exam days. After completing the process, we could reach the school by 12 noon,” said Mr. Manoj, who was earlier running a tea shop and is now engaged in the supply of bottled drinking water in Marampilly.

What will be his future course?

To a query on which stream he would like to select for Plus One course, Akshay said he had no such particular choice and was yet to zero in on any specific course.
