A 20-year-old girl student sustained serious injuries after being hacked by her neighbour at Udayamperoor near Thripunithura on Tuesday.

The victim, Ambily, a degree final year student, was attacked by 26-year-old Amal, reportedly for spurning his proposal. The incident took place around 5 p.m. when the victim was returning home from the college.

Later, Amal surrendered before the Udayamperoor police.

The attack took place at an isolated location, and hearing the girl’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and took her to hospital.

Earlier, Ambily had lodged a petition before the police stating that Amal had been disturbing her. The attack is suspected to be in retaliation to this.

The accused said that he had attacked the girl after she had ditched him and entered into another relationship.

The victim sustained a deep cut on her head and the shoulder. She was admitted to Ernakulam General Hospital and then shifted to a private hospital.
