Students allege denial of education loan

July 02, 2010 08:57 pm | Updated 08:57 pm IST - KOCHI:

The Association of Malayali Students Study in Karnataka will launch a campaign against the reported denial of educational loan to students from the State.

A large number of students were denied loans despite being eligible for it. Some of the banks were even violating the guidelines issued by the government and even the Reserve Bank of India in this regard, said Association president M.K. Thomas.

The issue of denial of loan came to the fore following the suicide attempt by a parent in Kozhikode whose ward was denied the financial support by a bank. The future of hundreds of students was at stake following the wrong stance of some of the banks, he said.

The Association would petition the Chief Minister. A mass petition signed by affected students and parents would be submitted to the State government, he said.
