KOCHI: The beautification of Hospital Road, which KMRL has identified to connect the Maharaja’s College Ground station and boat jetty, will begin next week.

The ₹9-crore project has been included in the Cochin Smart City Mission projects.

The basic civil work has already commenced. Once completed, the stretch will have a wide footpath, green spaces, disabled-friendly walkways, and a dedicated space for parking. Modern bus shelters will also come up along the stretch, the project document says.

The project will benefit nearby properties owing to improvement in the quality of the public space.

Junction improvement schemes and streamlining of vehicular traffic will be required to ensure the safety of pedestrians using the stretch, the document adds.
