About 90 per cent coverage was achieved in the Pulse Polio immunisation held on Sunday as part of the national programme for eradicating polio.
Of the 2,41,068 targeted children, 2,17,473 were given the oral polio vaccine.
The second phase of the two-phased programme has been postponed to April 15 from April 1, said the district mass media officer G. Sreekala.
A follow-up programme would be held for two days to immunise children left out on Sunday.
The district-level inauguration was held at Aluva taluk hospital where the district medical officer, R. Sudhakaran, inaugurated the immunisation drive. K. V. Beena, district manager, NRHM, presided. RCH Officer Shanta Kumari, State observers Dr. Sreelatha, State leprosy officer, and Ms. Girija, medical records officer, also spoke on the occasion.
The observers of the World Health Organisation from Kottayam Medical College, Dr. Hashik and Dr. Haripriya took part in the evaluation programme held at the DMO's office in the evening.
