Customs Air Intelligence sleuths at the international airport at Nedumbassery have seized a total of 1,127 grams of gold and 13.77 kg of tobacco, in addition to 20 cartons of cigarette, in separate cases over the past one week.
The seized gold included 233 grams of circular gold rods valued at ₹7.42 lakh, seized from a Malappuram native on his landing here from Doha, in addition to 843 grams of gold in compound form. The thick golden brown coloured paste was seized from a Kozhikode native, who had landed from Bangkok. It has been sent for a chemical examination and recovery of gold at the customs laboratory.
The tobacco consignments, valued at ₹3,1000, were seized from the checked-in baggage of an Uttar Pradesh native, who had reached here to board a flight to Doha. The cigarette cartons were seized from a Kozhikode native, who landed from Dubai on May 14.
Cases have been registered under provisions of the Customs Act 1962.
