Close to 3,100 students from 56 city schools flocked to World One School in Kondapur on Tuesday to participate in The Hindu Literary Festival organised in association with Vignan University.
The students competed with one another in literary activities including storytelling, creative narration, dramatised book reading and writing fairy tales with a twist, among others.
University of Hyderabad registrar P. Sardar Singh, who was the chief guest at the function, stressed the importance of oral and written skills in life. Commodore C. B. Rao of Vignan University said literary activities help in the overall development of a child.
T. Ravi of The Hindu said the Literary Festival aimed at rekindling the habit of reading. A grand finale of the event is expected to held in Hyderabad next month.
Winners of story telling competition were Isabel of Little Scholars School (first) and Inshal of Kennedy High (second). P. Sresta of UNICENT School, Kompally came first and Yashsree of BVB Public School, BHEL, was adjudged second in the dramatised book reading category.
In the fairy tales with a twist segment, P. Aaryan and G. Tevin Reddy of Vignan Bo Tree school won the first and and second prizes, respectively. In Jataka Tales round, Maithreyi of Johnson Grammar School and Sai Samyukta of Kennedy High bagged the first and second places, respectively.
In creative narration, K. Bhuvana Sai Harshika of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawans (BHEL) and Jayani Sahas of Johnson Grammar School clinched the first and second positions. In creative writing, Laasya, Scholars Highs School and K. Havishma of Vignan Bo Tree, Nizampet, won the top two prizes.
In creative writing (autobiography), Tarun Kulkarni of Kennedy High and Vidhi Udeshi of Gitanjali Devashray won top honours. Describing a mythological character round, Prathibha of Vignan PPN, Ghatkesar, and Gouri Jagadish of St. Michael’s School were adjudged winner and runners-up, respectively.
In theatre competition (classes VI and VII), World One School won the first prize while Vignan Bo Tree School, ECIL, won the second prize. In theatre competition meant for Classes 8, 9 and 10, Gitanjali Senior School and Vignan Bo Tree, ECIL, won the first two positions.
