Woman held for Rs. 13.5 crore fraud deal

November 24, 2011 02:37 am | Updated 02:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The police on Wednesday arrested a woman, M. Sujatha, who allegedly sold 7,000 square yards of land in the prime locality of Banjara Hills to a construction company with forged documents. The manager of Vardhaman bank's Koti branch, Venugopal, too was arrested on charge of aiding and betting her.

According to Central Crime Station sleuths, Sujatha, whose husband died a few years ago, created documents on the names of her three elder sisters, Bharathi, Laxmi and Annapoorna stating that the said land was gifted to them by the land owner Ch. Achaiah in 2010.

Based on these gift deeds, a General Power of Attorney empowering Ms. Sujatha to sell the land was obtained. However, original documents available suggest that the land was sold to a person Bapaiah and Razak though eventually the deals ended in a couple of court cases.

“Ms. Sujatha took the help of the bank manager to find buyers for the land and facilitate the deal,” the police said. Ms. Sujatha and her family members received Rs. 5.4 crore in the deal and the remaining sum was to be collected later .
