Farmers’ delight: Water will be released for irrigation to ayacut under Singoor and seven other projects very soon.

In a move that would appease the farmers under the Singoor project, the State government has decided to release water for irrigation from Singoor project by month-end. Water would also be released from Nallavagu.

The decision was taken by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday and irrigation officials were directed to take steps in this direction.

With good rains being reported in the catchment areas, the Singoor reservoir received additional inflows of 1.7 tmcft of water. With this, the current water storage in the dam stood at 18.9 tmcft with water level at 521.2 metres.

As promised, efforts are being made to release water to 40,000 acres this Kharif season.

Similarly, Nallavagu has received 440 mcft water out of its total capacity of 746 mcft. Hence, it was decided to release water from Nallavagu which will irrigate more than 6,000 acres.

“We were directed by the Minister to make arrangements for release water for irrigation. Water will be released before the month-end,” Mr. Ramulu, Executive Engineer, Irrigation, told The Hindu . Most of the mandals in the district received very good rains this monsoon. As many as 18 mandals out of the 26 mandals in the district received excess rainfall. Deficit rain was recorded only in three mandals – Sadashivapet, Gummadidala and Jinnaram whereas normal rainfall was registered in five mandals – Sirgapur, Kalher, Watpalle, Kondapur and Hatnoora.

Narayanakhed had received 114.8 mm rainfall on June 19, the highest in the recent past. While Sangareddy and Kandi mandals received 47.8 mm on June 20, Zaheerabad and Mogudampally witnessed 78 mm rainfall and Jarasangam had 74.6 mm rain on June 19.
