With an intent to make use of some components, buried mild steel pipes (work) of the now shelved Rajiv Dummugudem Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Telangana Government on Thursday approved the proposal to lift water from Ramappa lake to Pakala lake as part of the J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) with an estimated outlay of ₹132.7 crore.
According to Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) S.K. Joshi, permission has also been given to invite tenders subject to the deletion of amount for the reduced ayacut and the buried MS pipes of RDLIS. The government has given nod for lifting 3 TMC ft water from Ramappa lake, which would be supplemented water from Devadula, to Pakala lake, both in Narsampet constituency, by utilising the 2.5 meter diameter MS pipes of RDLIS. The lifting of water from Ramappa to Pakala has been necessitated following the redesigning of RDLIS by utilising MS pipes procured for the Rajiv Dummudem project., part of which has been abandoned now due to environmental and other hurdles. The new work would have reduced ayacut with the cancellation of Erraiah Rangaiah Cheruvu reservoir in Package-V of Phase-III of JCRDLIS.
