There was no need for university campuses to spread out over hundreds and thousands of acres when poor people did not have space for a home, Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao said here.
Participating in Swachh Hyderabad programme at Boudhanagar, Mr.Rao said some persons and politicians were opposing his proposal on taking up housing for the poor using some space of Osmania University.
“When in power they did not consider providing houses to poor nor they want it to happen now,” he said.
Seeks 500 acres
The Union Government had sought 500 acres for Horticulture University, he said adding, “I told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that that much land was not required and 50 acres were enough and he agreed”.
Golf clubs and card playing clubs were given hundreds of acres of land but petty politics were being attempted when he wanted to take up housing for poor on government lands, Mr.Rao said.
“If I take up something, I do not leave it in middle. I am a very stubborn person and pursue it till it is achieved. I will have homes built for two lakh poor families in stages and for this government land will be used,” he said, according to a press release.
Apart from residential dwellings, there was also a need to set up basic facilities such as hospitals and colleges, the Chief Minister said adding, “all this needs land and it has to be adjusted from somewhere available”.
