Varsities told to post teachers at hostels

September 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has asked the universities to post at least two teachers at the hostels during night, apart from requesting the local police to increase patrolling near the hostels.

The TSCHE Chairman, T. Papi Reddy, who chaired a meeting of registrars of all the Telangana universities here on Monday, said that most ragging incidents were reported from the hostels in the night. The registrars must ask the colleges to post senior teachers and also ask the local police to increase patrolling.

He said that practices adopted by the Acharya N G Ranga Agriculture University in the combined A.P should be studied. The university adopted some innovative practices like keeping the first year students in a separate hostel and locking the gate during the night to keep the seniors away. Practice hostels engaged by the colleges should be made to adopt these practices.
