Post-graduate students of University of Hyderabad preparing for competitive exams or attending official internships would be permitted to avail hostel accommodation during summer vacation. The research scholars of the university would continue to stay in the hostels.
About 450 students who have applied for accommodation with valid proof have already been accorded permission, a statement from the university said. These students can continue to use library and internet facilities. All such students would be accommodated in a handful of hostels in order to rationalise the use of electricity and water and management of messes.
However, the university would charge a subsidised fee of ₹500 per month for general category students, ₹375 for OBC category students, while SC and ST students are exempted from any payment towards accommodation. The fee is to meet the rising costs of maintenancecoupled with acute shortage of water supply, the administration said. The Chief Warden’s Office has requested students to cooperate and, where necessary, move into other hostels on the campus for summer. It said the University spends, on an average, about ₹9.5 crore per annum on electricity, water and internet charges on hostels.
