The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked among the top-10 universities in India for the second consecutive year in the QS India University Rankings 2020 released on Tuesday.

A statement from UoH said the varsity has been placed in the eighth position for the year 2020 in the rankings of 100 institutions in India. IIT-Bombay is at the top followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

‘Reinforces stature’

UoH Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao Podile said the rank has reinforced its stature as a premier institution, for which it was awarded the Institution of Eminence status. “It entails intensive work ahead to not only retain but also improve our ranking, with a climb across parameters. This will help us better serve the nation through high quality education and research,” he said.

Not considering the IITs and IISc, Delhi University occupies the first spot followed by the UoH. QS is a global higher education company which brings out QS World University Rankings, the world’s most widely-consulted list of its kind. This is the second edition of QS rankings exclusively for Indian institutions.

The methodology used eight indicators to determine the institutions’ rankings — academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-student ratio (20%), proportion of staff with PhD candidates(10%), papers per faculty from Scopus database (10%), citations per paper from Scopus database (5%), the proportion of international students (2.5%) and the proportion of international faculty (2.5%).
