A Hyderabad-based startup has proposed a cost-effective method for recycling polystyrene waste into sub-micron aligned fibers, using environmentally safe, non-toxic and natural solvent extracted from citrus peel. It can used for cleaning water or oil-spill remidiation and in textiles.
Restyro Technologies Private Limited, born at IIT-Hyderabad Technology Incubation Center (ITIC), inaugurated its office in the institute’s new academic building on Monday.
Chandana Deepthi, Superintendent of Police, Medak, and Aynampudi Subbarao, president of Indian Innovators Association, participated in the programme.
Ms. Deepthi suggested approaching the State government for wider reach of the technology and for providing entrepreneurship opportunities to self-help groups.
Chandra Shekhar Sharma, associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Hyderabad, one of the founding directors of Restyro Technologies, Mudrika Khandelwal, assistant professor of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, gave a presentation on the technology. Prof. Mudrika also informed that they have filed for patents in India, US and China to protect the intellectual property of this technology.
