Two sewage treatment plants commissioned

May 11, 2015 10:11 am | Updated 10:11 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will commission two Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) at Attapur and Mir Alam. One of them is a 23 million litres per day (MLD) machine at Attapur, works on which are almost complete, while the other 5 MLD structures at Mir Alam will be functional in a year’s time, say officials.

The works on both the STPs, which started some time ago on the Rajendranagar side of the Mir Alam Tank, will take care of sewage coming from Sulaiman Nagar, Hyderguda, the agricultural university and nearby areas.

“The 23 MLD STP is almost complete. Currently, instrumentation works are going on. In a week’s time, the STP will be built, and will become operational,” said an HMWSSB official, seeking anonymity.

The 5 MLD STP near the Mir Alam tank, however, will take another year to be operational, said the official. “Since there is a lake bed nearby, reclamation work needs to be done. The land on which we are working was allotted to us by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA),” he further stated.

The official added that on the premises where the 23 MLD STP is being set up, a 51 MLD STP had been commissioned under the National River Conservation Directorate (NCRD) phase-1 scheme.
