Two youngsters were run over by a train at Safilguda in Secunderabad while they were sitting on the railway track and reportedly sniffing whitener to get a high, the police said on Monday.

The victims were identified as P. Suresh, 20, of Kapra and V. Balaji, 18, of Shamirpet.

“We're told the youths got addicted to sniffing the whitener. They frequently left home and returned two to three days later,” Secunderabad Railway Police SI, Arlappa, said.

According to him, Balaji left home two days ago after his parents reprimanded him for spoiling his health by sniffing the whitener.

Police are not sure where the two victims met.

They reportedly sat on the track and failed to notice the approaching train as they were in an intoxicated condition, the police said.

The accident occurred between Safilguda and Dayanandnagar.
