Two more reservoirs for Hyderabad

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed the officials of municipal administration to prepare plans for construction of two reservoirs for augmenting the supply of drinking water in the State capital.

In a review meeting held here on Monday, he told the municipal administration authorities to give priority on the creation of infrastructure facilities in the urban areas since migration of people from rural areas was on constant rise.

He asked the officials to focus on drinking water supply, management of drains, sewerage, roads and other facilities in Hyderabad, five other municipal corporations and 62 municipalities.

Stating that the government was ready to arrange necessary funds, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare action plans for creation of infrastructure in urban areas. Special Advisor to government D. Srinivas, Principal Secretary in the CMO S. Narsing Rao, Secretary (Finance) K. Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration) M.G. Gopal, Commissioner (MA&UD) B. Janardhan Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and others participated.

Policy

The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a policy for the planned development of urban areas by controlling illegal layouts and constructions. He told the officials to send proposal for construction of housing for the poor in urban areas and also develop underground drainage system in Nizamabad and Karimnagar towns.

Meanwhile, executives of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) Pradeep Puri and V. Prabhakar Rao met the Chief Minister and discussed about the possibilities of financing the drinking water grid project.

According to an official press release, they expressed interest in funding the project and a decision would be taken after another meeting with the officials.
