The first unit of 800 MWs of Stage-I of Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) is all set for commissioning in May 2020 and the second unit of 800 MWs in November 2020 by the NTPC Ramagundam authorities, who are working round-the-clock for the commissioning of the project ahead of schedule.

The 4,000 MWs TSTPP was part of assurances made to the Telangana State under the AP States Reorganisation Act, 2014. Though, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for the Stage-I project (2 x 800 MW) in August 7, 2016, the zero date of the project was January 29, 2016. During the last three years, the NTPC Ramagundam authorities, who are executing the project, have completed 70 % of TG island package works, SG island package by 50 % and 44% BOP package work.

The construction of the 275 m chimney is expected to be completed by February end as the construction of 255 m is already complete.

Higher efficiency

The TSTPP is using the ultra super critical technology which helps in reduction of coal consumption and thus reducing pollution. The commissioning of the units with flue gas de-sulpharisation (FGD) system will be the first 800 MWs of the country with wet chimney.

TSTPP General Manager (Project) Vijai Singh said that the Stage-I of 2x800 MWs was marching ahead with commendable safety practice since its zero date on January 29, 2016. In last three years, the project has achieve all its MoU targets and also won Swarn Shakthi winner trophy in project management (Greenfield-thermal) category for the year 2017-18 which shows Team Telangana’s commitment to excellence, he added.

NTPC Ramagundam Executive Director Ravindra said that the Telangna Project has done a commendable job in the last three years since its zero date. “Excellent team work coupled with collaboration with agencies has helped the project achieve its target. Besides its focus on safety at workplace, the project envisages many breakthrough technologies like FGD system which will be the first 800 MW of the country with wet chimney,” he said and added that “we expect to complete the project as per schedule”.
