TS to seek WB aid for MedTech Park

State-of-the-art infrastructure being developed at the Medical Devices Park

The State government is actively examining a proposal to seek World Bank’s assistance for developing into a world class facilility the ‘MedTech Park’, the first of its kind medical devices park, for which foundation stone was laid at Sultanpur in Sangareddy district on Saturday.

The Government is working out modalities to leverage the $ 125 million assistance announced by the World Bank for developing bio-pharmaceuticals and medical devices industry in India for developing a dedicated ecosystem for MedTech to promote innovation.

Conducive ecosystem

The park is envisaged to be a destination for medical devices manufacturing with a holistic ecosystem in terms of research facilities, engineering and medical talent and connect between research and medical ecosystem. Spread over 250 acres initially, the MedTech park is in the close proximity to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Work has been initiated to develop facilities that will support innovation, research and development and industrial scale manufacturing, dedicated support ecosystem in terms of warehousing and logistics, electricity and water, waste management.

Centre’s suggestion

Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the Union Pharmaceutical Secretary had briefed the State officials about the World Bank’s assistance during his recent visit to the city. The Union Government has suggested to the State government to take advantage of the World Bank assistance for developing the state-of-the-art infrastructure required in the park. “The Central Government wanted us to take advantage by participating in the project. We will accordingly send a detailed project report to the Centre soon,” Mr. Jayesh Ranjan told The Hindu . The government, to begin with, had initiated the process to create certain basic infrastructure including common facilities in the park.

This is in addition to the common facilities proposed under the public private partnership mode. An estimated ₹80 crore would be invested in creating the facilities required for the facility in the coming days, he added.
