TRS neglecting education sector: Shabbir

June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohd. Ali Shabbir on Tuesday accused Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Government of neglecting the education sector in the State.

He regretted that almost all universities in Telangana did not have Vice-Chancellors and alleged that the VC appointments were delayed because Mr. Rao wanted to become the Chancellor of the varsities himself. For this to happen, an amendment to the Universities Act is necessary, he said.

At a review meeting with party workers of Nampally Assembly constituency at the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee office in connection with GHMC elections, Mr. Shabbir Ali pointed out that the mess in Osmania University was closed due to non-payment of bills since June 18. About 600 research scholars are struggling for their meal, he said, adding that this was Mr. Rao’s way of taking revenge on students for their protests against government’s proposal to take over OU land.

Mr. Shabbir Ali asked Congress cadre to get ready for the GHMC elections and wanted them to tell voters about how the Congress government earlier had developed Hyderabad, spending a whopping Rs. 1 lakh crore.

Others who also spoke were Deputy CLP leader T. Jeevan Reddy and Rajya Sabha MP R. Anand Bhaskar.
