Traffic curbs on Ganesh idols procession route

The restrictions may be extended if necessary

Police has notified that all vehicles other than those carrying idols will be restricted on procession routes in the city on Tuesday and until early Wednesday.

In its notification issued on Sunday, the city police informed that main procession involving the Balapur Ganesh will wind its way through the Old City through Aliabad and Charminar, passing through M.J. Market to reach Hussain Sagar. No traffic other than procession vehicles will be allowed between 9 a.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

If the pace of immersions from previous years is any indication, the restrictions may be extended.

Diversion for vehicles

To facilitate movement of traffic along the main procession route, diversions have been put in place. Vehicles approaching from southern fringes of the city attempting to proceed on this route, will be diverted through Mogulpura via Engine Bowli and eventually to City College after reaching Darulshiffa Crossroads.

Vehicles approaching the procession route from east of the city, will be diverted at various points including Chanchalguda, Salarjung Bridge, Jambagh and Koti.

On Necklace Road

The police also informed that traffic will not be allowed to enter Necklace Road and Upper Tank Bund from Karbala Maidan, Buddha Bhavan or Nallagutta Junction. A procession route from Secunderabad area has been designated via R.P. Road, Karbala Maidan, Kawadiguda, RTC X Road, Narayanguda and Himayatnagar. Diversions have also been put into place in and around the center of the city for vehicles attempting to get on to the main procession route. Accordingly, vehicles will be routed through Chappel Road, Gun Foundry, Domalguda, Ravindabharathi, Khairatabad Junction and Indira Park Junction.

Buses not allowed

The police has also imposed additional restrictions for RTC buses at a few junctions while all private buses have been advised to operate from out of the city locations. For onlookers, the police has designated 10 spots around Hussain Sagar Lake. The police has also setup three helpline numbers - 040-27852482, 9490598985 901020362.
