Three-day poultry expo begins

A three-day exhibition ‘Poultry India 2018’ focused on the poultry sector and showcasing products and services of 325 companies opened in the city on Wednesday.

Senior officials from the Centre and State government, who spoke at the inauguration of the exhibition, underscored the significance and contribution of poultry sector.

Secretary to Telangana’s Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Sandeep Kumar Sultania said the State is a leading producer of chicken and eggs. The State government has initiated several steps for poultry sector, including a power subsidy at the rate of ₹ 2 per unit. It has also increased the number of eggs served in the mid-day meal scheme from 2 to 3 a week, as part of an emphasis on increasing the consumption and to address protein deficiency.

Joint Secretary to Centre’s Department of Animal Husbandry O.P. Choudhary urged the stakeholders in the sector to focus on value added products and encourage brand building for certain indigenous poultry.
