Over 20,000 police personnel to be deployed; over 25 lakh supporters likely to participate

The Telangana police have made ‘unprecedented’ security arrangements for the Pragati Nivedana Sabha (PNS) in terms of traffic management and deployment of force at the venue.

With the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi claiming to mobilise over 25 lakh supporters for its meeting at Kongara Kalan on the city outskirts on Sunday, over 20,000 police personnel including one inspector general, two deputy inspector general, and 10 superintendent of police rank officers will be deployed at the venue, said Additional DGP (Law & Order) Jitender.

He said that the total bandobust is divided into 26 sectors, which will cover VVIP and VIP movement, public meeting and public approach ways, including 22 parking areas spread across over 1,200 acres. “We are expecting more than one lakh vehicles on Sunday and have 19 galleries each with a sitting capacity of 20,000,” he said.

Mr Jitender said the entire venue will be covered by surveillance cameras, which will be monitored from a makeshift command control centre behind the main stage.

All police personnel and over 500 TRS volunteers are instructed to provide way for ambulances in case of emergency, the senior cop said.

Explaining the hassle-free arrangements made by police for safety of people coming to attend the meeting from across the State, Mr Jitender said 20 Additional SPs, 125 ACsP, 700 inspectors, 1,064 SIs, 8,850 head constables and police constables and 1,053 women police constables will be deployed.

Two companies of Rapid Action Force, 12 platoons of TSSP, eight platoons of armed forces, three parties of Grey Hounds, two platoons of OCTOPUS, mounted police, rope parties and six motor cycle patrolling parties will also be pressed into service.

“There are 30 vehicle diversion points, checkposts and 23 pickets, 20 viewpoints, 10 SHE teams and 30 crime prevention teams are pressed into service as part of the safety and security arrangements” he said.

Additional CP (Traffic) Anil Kumar will monitoring bandobust arrangements in traffic regulation with four SPs, six Additional SPs, 20 ACsP and 61 inspectors, which is divided into 24 sectors. “Signage boards with sufficient illumination are erected for free flow of traffic into the meeting place and in return routes,” he said.

He said traffic control will work round the clock and flow will be monitored through CCTV cameras.

“As many as 22 parking places and 15 new ramps are created for entry and exit of traffic. A total of 54 cranes are arranged for lifting of breakdown vehicles in the route and 100 motor cycles for route patrolling,” Mr. Kumar said.
