Actor-turned-politician Roja Selvamani’s husband, noted filmmaker R.K. Selvamani has reported an alleged theft at their residence in Panchavati Colony, Manikonda, said police on Monday.
Mr. Selvamani lodged a complaint with Raidurgam police saying that gold ornaments, including a necklace, bangles and earrings weighing about 12 tolas, and silver ornaments weighing two kg, worth around ₹ 4.5 lakh, had gone missing from their house. The exact date of the theft is yet to be ascertained.
“Since there was no sign of the main door being broken or the cupboards being opened by force, the needle of suspicion points to the persons working at their house,” said M. Ram Babu, inspector, Raidurgam, adding that the couple’s domestic help and drivers would be questioned.
The theft came to light on Sunday, when domestic help Ramalakshmi noticed that the cupboards in one of the bedrooms was open.
“Since all the employees had gone to their native place to celebrate Sankranti, the house was locked. The domestic help returned to work on Saturday and the next day, she noticed that the cupboards were open. She immediately informed Mr Selvamani, who lodged a complaint,” said the police, adding that three years ago, a few gold ornaments had gone were missing from Ms. Roja’s house, but no police complaint had been filed then.
