Temples decked up for Navaratri fete

Nine-day celebrations begin today

Navaratri celebrations will be held at the historic Bhadrakali temple from September 29 to October 9 here.

Dwajarohanam and Kalasastapana rituals will mark the beginning of the nine-day event at the Kakatiya-era temple, led by chief priest B. Seshu. Mula Nakshatra puja is scheduled for October 5, Mahastami on October 6, Mahanavami on October 7, Vijayadasami on October 8 and celestial wedding of Bhadrakali and Bhadreswara on October 9 that marks the conclusion of Navaratri at Bhadrakali temple.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Seshu said special pujas, decoration of the main deity Sri Bhadrakali on each day in the different incarnations and spiritual discourses and cultural programmes in the evenings form part of the celebrations. To ensure smooth conduct of the events, officers from various departments are involved in arrangements.

In Karimnagar, elaborate arrangements are in place for Navaratri celebrations on a grand scale at the Sri Durga Bhavani temple in Nagunuru village from September 29 to October 7, said temple priest Puranam Maheshwara Sharma.

Participating in the poster release with respect to the celebrations, Mr Sharma said special pujas would be conducted on all nine days at the temple, including daily chandi homam , kumkum archana, puja of vehicles etc. On October 5, a Saraswati puja would be performed followed by Bathukamma celebrations on October 6 evening. Shami puja would be performed on October 8.

Navaratri celebrations at Gnana Saraswati temple at Basar in Nirmal district will begin on Sunday and continue till October 8 during which special programmes will be organised by the temple committee.

The district administration has made special arrangements for the devotees. The RTC will ply special buses between Basar railway station and the temple for the period.
