June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hyderabad:

Meeseva applications will be accessible on mobile phones in five years, according to Minister for Information Technology K.T. Rama Rao.

Speaking at a meet on Smart City held here on Monday, Mr. Rama Rao said all the 316 applications that provide access to various government welfare initiatives would be available as mobile applications. The attempt is aimed at making technology accessible to people, the Minister said at the launch of ‘Smart Solutions for Smart Societies (4S), a collaborative project of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI). As part of the 4S meet, industry, academic and government experts will conduct a series of conferences spread over a year to come up with smart city solutions in the fields of building, energy, health, transport, environment, governance and ICT, which will be applied after due government approval in cities, including Hyderabad, Khamman, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nalgonda.

Speaking at the meet, the Minister asked industry think tanks to come up with customised solutions suitable for Telangana.

“The meet was organised in the context of the Union government’s decision to fund the making of 100 smart cities in the coming five years. Technology is a great leveller of socio-economic differences,” the Minister said.

The State government is gearing up for a technology conclave where industry experts and administrative heads of States from across the country will meet in Hyderabad in July, the Minister pointed out.
