Study to assess the technology gap of MSMEs in select industries

Setting up of a technology development fund as a measure to assist small and medium enterprises scale up their operations technologically is under the consideration of the Telangana government.

Besides such a fund, a study to assess the technology gap of MSMEs in select industries and suggest suitable upgrades as well as orientation programmes for entrepreneurs on what they need to adapt are the other initiatives on the anvil in the State.

Giving a peek into the government’s thinking on assisting MSMEs in select industries, a list that includes pharma, defence and electronics, Industries and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said a small technology development fund is likely to be created in the next fiscal.

Addressing the 3D Print Tech conference on trends in additive manufacturing organised here on Friday by industry body CII, the official said the Central Institute of Tool Design would be conducting a survey on the technology gaps in MSMEs in the State.

The State government, he added, has also requested CII to partner in the setting up a Centre of Excellence on Advanced Manufacturing.

Other aspects the government intends to focus include one on linking SMEs to large, domestic manufacturers, something similar to what is being done in Singapore where the government connects the enterprises to mega, global manufacturers. The study would also recommend training needed for people.
