The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Central Government fulfil the assurances given in the A.P. State Reorganisation Act including granting of the special category status assured to the State post bifurcation.

Telugu Desam Party MPs led by C.M. Ramesh and J.C. Diwakar Reddy staged a demonstration at the Gandhi statue on the premises of the Parliament on Thursday in support of their demands. Holding placards, the TDP MPs raised slogans seeking the grant of special category status and implementation of other promises.

Mr. Ramesh said that several promises made in the Reorganisation Act were yet to be implemented. These include announcement of incentives to new industries in the successor State Andhra Pradesh, construction of high court building, special grant for backward districts and bridging the deficit budget of the new State. “Several promises were made, but works on many of them are still to take off,” he said.
