The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Joint Action Committee on Wednesday interpreted the developments in the High Court as in their favour with leaders urging Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to call unions for talks.

Addressing the media, TSRTC JAC leaders E. Ashwathama Reddy, K Raji Reddy and others said the State government should invest time in reaching out to the striking workers and look into their demands rather than spending hours in meetings behind closed doors.

“The Chief Minister can talk to us for an hour or so. Hold talks instead of meeting officials with doors closed for hours and hours. We request the government to discuss the issues,” TSRTC JAC co-convener K Raji Reddy said.

The TSRTC JAC also touched upon the proceedings in the court. They also spoke about the reported contradictory statements submitted to the court.

“What are these deadlines which Chief Minister keeps coming up with? Only 350 people reported for duty out of more than 48,000 TSRTC workers. We are going ahead with our strike. We will continue to drum up support for our ‘Chalo Tank Bund’ protest programme on November 9. All parties except TRS have agreed to support us,” said JAC leader Thomas Reddy. Earlier in the day, protests erupted at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram where activists of Opposition parties were present. Among those who attended the event were TJS chief M. Kodandaram, Communist Party of India (ML) leader P Ranga Rao and Communist Party of India leader E T Narasimha Rao.

Also present among protesters were members of Students Federation of India and International Federation of Trade Unions.

Those who gathered at the SVK tried to march from the spot to Indira Park in support of the TSRTC but were picked up by the police.
