The South Central Railway’s Secunderabad division has installed 22 bottle-shredding machines at different stations of the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

At Secunderabad station, 12 bottle shredders have been installed, while five are at Hyderabad station, and one each at Necklace Road, Begumpet, Hafizpet, Hi-Tec City and Lingampalli stations. At present, around 600 bottles are being shredded by passengers themselves at Secunderabad station and around 300 bottles at Hyderabad station a day. The shredded pieces thus collected in the bottom tray of the machines can be used to recycle in an environmental-friendly way. These machines are user-friendly and each bottle is shredded into pieces in 3 to 5 seconds.

The bottle shredders are also installed at coach maintenance yard and at central waste collection bin at Secunderabad station to enable cleaning staff to easily dispose of the collected pet bottles while cleaning the coach. The railways has appealed to its customers to cooperate with it in taking this momentum forward at all the stations in its jurisdiction and contribute to greener environment, CPRO Ch. Rakesh said.
