All India Congress Committee secretary K.B. Krishnamurthy has warned senior Congress leaders and Ministers against criticising the party and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Government in public.

The party leadership was closely monitoring the comments being made by a section of leaders and disciplinary action would be initiated against such leaders at an appropriate time.

“We have to take a view after reviewing the situation and action will be initiated as and when time comes,” he said.

Mr. Krishnamurthy was here on Wednesday to elicit first hand information about the Congress' situation and the Government's functioning with Ministers, MLAs and senior leaders.

Speedy decision sought

The AICC leader called on the Chief Minister and met representatives from several districts who urged the leadership to take a speedy decision on the separate statehood demand.

Briefing reporters later, he dismissed the reports on the “impending replacement” of the Chief Minister in view of the recent by-poll results. There was no need for panic over the losses suffered in some seats in the by-elections as the Government and the party continued to be strong.

“Nobody has sought change in leadership. Individuals may have their opinion on the functioning of the Chief Minister, but that should not be construed as party's view. Open criticism about the party and the government is not acceptable to the leadership,” he said to repeated queries about reports on possible change in guard in the State.

On separate Telangana, Mr. Krishnamurthy said the party high command and the Central Government were seized of the matter.
