Stage set for WAN-IFRA conference in city today

Association helps newspapers, publishers transform business

The 26th Annual Conference of World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) 2018 is set for inauguration at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre here on Wednesday.

At a time the exponential growth and adoption of consumer technologies drive new news media consumption patterns and force publishers to react and adjust business rapidly, WAN-IFRA supports this transformation through various services: support for innovation and business development, advocating a free press, monitor and share industry best practices and market insights in print and online publications.

The inaugural session of the two-day conference has two parallel events — World Editors Forum South Asia summit and the World Printers Forum Conference. WAN-IFRA CEO Vincent Peyregne will deliver a key note on “World Press Trends and Future of news publishing” followed by a panel discussion on how to bridge the gap between editorial, technical and business functions for accomplishing company goals and surviving in the news media business.

On the panel

The panel, to be chaired by K. N. Shanth Kumar , Director, The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd., has Mukund Padmanabhan, Editor, The Hindu , Kalpesh Yagnik, National Editor, DB Corp Ltd, Sandeep Gupta, Executive President, Jagran Prakashan Ltd., and Sharad Saxena, Executive Director, Operations, HT Media. Several sessions are lined up on “Newsroom Transformations”, “Future of Newsrooms - How to thrive in an increasingly visual and audio-driven news ecosystem, case studies on Digital first approach and Journalism for changing media landscape”.

WAN-IFRA represents and serves 18,000 publications and over 3,000 companies and institutions (individual publishing companies, technical suppliers, service providers, national publishers’ associations, education and research institutions) in over 120 countries. WAN-IFRA is a multi-stakeholder service organisation and mirrors the diversity of the industry and the variety of disciplines.

The inaugural event will be marked by the presentation of South Asian Digital Media Awards.
