The residents of Siddipet district have a reason to rejoice with the Medical Council of India (MCI) recommending the Union Government to accord permission for admission into Government Medical College at Siddipet. The orders were issued on May 15 for 150 seats.
Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao had demanded establishment of a medical college here on October 11, 2016, during the formation of Siddipet district. Soon after, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced sanctioning of the same. In keeping its word, the State government released ₹20 crore for the construction of 300-bed hospital on January 28, 2017 followed by sanctioning of ₹715 crore for the establishment of a medical college on March 24 the same year. On May 11, the Finance Ministry accorded permission to fill 931 posts.
In November first week, the members of MCI inspected the hospital and mother and childcare centre. After their second visit to the hospital in the first week of April, they accorded permission, in principal, to fill all the posts.
It is said that the first year admission into the medical college would commence in August and round-the-clock services would be made available to public in all the important wings. Celebrating the news, Mr. Harish Rao felicitated college principal Tamli Arasu at his residence on Thursday.
