SCR revenue surges by 15%

Earnings at ₹15,640 crore; carried 383 million passengers

South Central Railway (SCR) has registered a 15% rise in revenue earnings at ₹15,640 crore in the financial year 2018-19 when compared to figures in the previous year. It has also carried a record 383 million passengers, an increase in four million passengers, in the same period, informed General Manager Gajanan Mallya on Monday.

Complimenting his entire staff for the “remarkable performance”, he said SCR has once again reinforced its credentials as the ‘best zone’ of the Indian Railways with its all-round achievements as the freight handling too has been a record 122.5 million tonnes, up by 19% and its earnings has been more than ₹10,000 crore.

Addressing staff and officers at the 64th Railway Week celebrations at Rail Kalarang, Bhoiguda, to commemorate the first train run on Indian soil, Mr. Mallya gave away the ‘best performance efficiency shield to Secunderabad and Vijayawada Divisions jointly with divisional railway managers Anand Bhatia and R. Dhananjayulu receiving the awards.

Additional general manager John Thomas said SCR running 744 trains and transporting around five lakh passengers per day is the first on Indian Railways to achieve 100% LED lighting at all the stations, service buildings and residential quarters.

Efficiency shields

About 33 zonal level efficiency shields were also presented to various departments and divisions with Secunderabad division getting ‘best energy conservation (electrical), diesel traction, best loading effort, best track, innovations, environment, housekeeping, station cleanliness, signal/telecom and civil engineering shields.

Vijayawada division got shields for best utilisation of track machines, best maintained maintained running room, innovations; HRD (personnel), commercial, operating and civil engineering, and best maintained long-distance train. Guntakal Division got Rajbhasha, cleanliness, best track shield, survey and construction, best division for elimination of level crossings, medical and mechanical shields.

Hyderabad division got best school (Railway Mixed High School, South Lallaguda), best maintained DEMU/MEMU/EMU sheds, security and safety shields. Guntur division got awards for scrap disposal, for elimination of level crossings, electrical and finance (accounts) shields. Nanded division received scrap disposal and grievance redressal machinery shields.

The GM also presented 171 individual awards and 23 group awards.
