“I thought he would kill me but never imagined that he hatched plan to eliminate his daughter,” said B Sandeep, who was hacked by his father-in-law on the main road at Erragadda on Wednesday.

The newly-wed couple, Madhavi and Sandeep, were attacked by the former's father, Manohara Chary (42) for marrying a Dalit on Wednesday in Erragadda.

Sandeep said that Madhavi was responding to treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda.

Recalling the horrific incident, Sandeep said that on Wednesday afternoon, Manohara Chary telephoned him asking them to come near Gokul theatre, as the former wanted to see his daughter and take them for shopping.

“We never expected that he (Chary) has intentions to attack, in fact to kill us,” he said, adding that he escaped from the spot, assuming Chary came to kill him.

The couple got married at a temple in Alwal on September 12 and the bride’s family opposed their marriage, since they belonged to a backward class community and the groom a Dalit.

Soon, after their marriage, they approached SR Nagar police for protection and the cops counselled both families.

“Chary used to come to our house everyday to see us and was in frequent touch over phone. He was always under the influence of alcohol and on Wednesday too he was inebriated,” said Sandeep, who suffered injuries in the attack.

During a conversation with the couple at their place, Chary assured them that he would never act like Maruthi Rao of Miryalguda who hatched a conspiracy to kill his son-in-law last week.

Meanwhile, doctors at Yashoda hospital said that Madhavi was responding to the treatment and post surgery she was kept on ventilator support and shifted to surgical ICU.
