A contract assistant professor at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT, Basar), also known as IIIT-Basar, in Nirmal district was on Sunday dismissed from service following an inquiry into allegations of cheating a second-year pre-university course girl student.

The accused, Varala Ravi, of chemistry department, had made the student, who had failed in the exam, believe that he would get her passed on payment of bribe and invited her to his living quarters, which raised questions on his motive.

According to Nirmal Superintendent of Police C. Shashidhar Raju, a case was booked under Sections 420, 409 and 506 of the IPC and an investigation was on. The accused allegedly used to demand between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 from students and made them write exams in his living quarters, said the SP.

The victim had earlier complained to the RGUKT management and it found the allegation to be true after conducting an inquiry. Based on the investigation, the accused was dismissed from service.

Earlier in the day, student unions and parents staged a protest in front of the RGUKT. They alleged that such incidents had become routine at the premier educational institute.
