Leader of Telugu Desam Legislature Party A. Revanth Reddy on Friday lashed out at the TRS government for their attitude towards farmers and its apparent reluctance to be pro-active in ensuring minimum support price for their produce.
At a press conference here on Friday, he took exception to the way chilli farmers were arrested and handcuffed on April 30 when they protested against the falling chilli price. “Is this the way a government should treat the farmers who were fighting against all odds and struggling to make ends meet?” he asked.
He said the farmers in Khammam were handcuffed only because the police wanted to book them under section 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It was unfortunate that the government could adopt such an attitude towards small farmers for whom everyday survival was an ordeal. Mr. Reddy said several representations to the Chief Minister to buy chilli at ₹8,000 per quintal were in vain.
