Reservation of wards finalised in Warangal, Khammam

The State government on Monday announced reservation of wards in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) and Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) going to elections next month.

According the reservation finalised by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, 50 per cent of wards have been reserved for women as it was done in case of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The government issued orders notifying the reservation of wards in GWMC (58) and KMC (50) on Monday.

Reservation of wards in GWMC: ST-General – 1 (54); ST-Women – 1 (58); SC-General – 5 (1, 2, 6, 30 and 34); SC-Women – 4 (5, 11, 12 and 35); BC-General – 10 (8, 43, 19, 10, 23, 14, 40, 16, 41 and 20); BC-Women – 9 (31, 4, 22, 25, 9, 7, 29, 21 and 3); Women-General – 15 (47, 18, 52, 17, 28, 45, 53, 13, 38, 15, 24, 49, 51, 32 and 56); Unreserved – 13 (27, 50, 33, 55, 44, 48, 36, 42, 39, 37, 57, 46 and 26).

Reservation of wards in KMC: ST-General – 1 (1); ST-Women – 1 (38); SC-General – 3 (4, 28, and 49); SC-Women – 3 (20, 27 and 32); BC-General – 9 (6, 7, 12, 16, 18, 26, 29, 47 and 48); BC-Women – 8 (33, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 46 and 50); Women-General – 13 (3, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 23, 31, 34, 35, and 45); Unreserved – 12 (2, 5, 8, 14, 21, 22, 24, 25, 30, 36, 37 and 39).

The State Government has plans to go for elections to the civic bodies of Warangal, Khammam, Siddipet and Achampet in the first week of March so that the Budget session of the Legislature could be taken up only after the completion of elections to the four urban local bodies (ULBs).

Once the reservation of wards is completed in case of the four ULBs, the list would be sent to the State Election Commission facilitating issuance of notification, mostly later this week or the next.

A G.O. was issued on February 11 changing the election guidelines to ULBs by reducing the time of the process. According to changes, only three days time would be given to file nomination papers, scrutiny would be taken up on the next day of filing papers and withdrawal of papers would be allowed till 3 pm on the day after scrutiny.

Polling would be conducted on the ninth day after the process of nominations, including withdrawal, is completed.
