Osmania University authorities lodged a police complaint against a Ph.D scholar after he threw a shoe at the principal of the Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE), M. Kumar.

The student was apparently annoyed that he was asked to clear his dues and waive off some fee related to Ph.D submission. The varsity also constituted a sub-committee to suggest the next course of action on this specific issue and behavior related problems.

University officials said that though the scholar received TEQUIP scholarship of around Rs 5 lakhs for three years (Rs.18,000 per month) he failed to pay hostel dues to the extent of Rs. 53,000 and was pressurising the Principal and other officials to issue the press notification on the award of his doctorate. When the principal tried to counsel him about the rule position he threw his shoe and was evicted from the Principal’s chamber by the support staff.

The Deans and other staff went on strike after the incident. In a statement here the university authorities warned the students not to misconstrue such positivity as weakness as the University can come down heavily on anyone spoiling the academic atmosphere on the campus.
