Telangana government has taken a decision to regularise contract junior lecturers and directed the General Administration Department (Services) to formulate the guidelines for implementing the process.

Replying to a question in the Legislative Council on Monday, Higher Education Minister Kadiam Srihari disclosed that various steps were being taken to improve the quality of education in Government Junior Colleges, including filling vacant posts, and regularising the services of contract lecturers.

Apart from 3,796 contract junior lecturers, there are 99 vacant posts which will be filled through direct recruitment. The Minister said that the plea for restoration of an earlier GO facilitating promotion of Senior School Assistants as Junior Lecturers that was cancelled by the previous united Andhra Pradesh Government would be examined.

The government has been providing free text books to Intermediate students in government colleges at a cost of Rs.7.21 crore and waived recognition fee of Rs.97 lakh paid by the students. This had seen a jump in the strength of students during this academic year (2015-16) to 81,500 from 66,000 in 2013-14 and 68,000 in 2014-15.

The Minister disclosed that regular principals would also be appointed to the junior colleges.

On the demand for providing unified service rules to all categories of government teachers, he said the Supreme Court had taken a different view and the copy of its judgement was yet to be received by the government. However, State will adopt a resolution in both the Assembly and Council with the approval of the Chief Minister for providing unified service rules for teachers, he added.
