Forest Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy on Monday said the State Government would soon appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor for the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basar, in Nirmal district. He ordered police authorities to station one woman Sub Inspector of Police at the premier institution for better safety of girl students.

The Minister visited RGUKT following an incident in which a contract assistant professor was dismissed from service on allegations of harassment of girl students the previous day. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police C. Shashidhar Raju in his interactions with the management, security personnel and students.

Mr. Reddy warned erring staff members, including the security personnel, of attracting stringent punishment in case of any negligence. He asked all concerned to discharge their duties in proper manner.

The Minister assured the students of a safer atmosphere at the RGUKT for them to pursue their studies. "The government is with you," he observed while trying to assuage their feelings in the wake of the ugly incident.
