Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageshwara Rao has said that construction of all the iconic buildings and monuments of Telangana State will henceforth be taken up by the Roads and Buildings Department.

At a review meeting with the R&B officials here on Saturday, Mr. Nageshwara Rao said prestigious construction projects planned by the Telangana State government such as Command Control Centre of the police department, Telangana cultural centre ‘Kala Bharathi’, collectorates for the newly formed districts, MLAs’ quarters, the mammoth Ambedkar statue, and the martyrs’ memorials will have to be taken up by the department.

Fresh recruitments will be taken up for the department to match the increased work, and also promotions will be given for the deserving employees, he said.

The Telangana government has proposed the command and control centre at an estimate cost of ₹ 350 crore, the Telangana cultural centre ‘Kala Bharathi’ at ₹ 300 crore, and 26 collectorates at ₹ 35 crore each, and 104 quarters for the members of the Legislative Assembly involving an expenditure of ₹ 1 crore each. These apart, the R&B department will also take up the projects of Telangana martyrs’ memorials, and Ambedkar Smriti Vanam, which will cost about ₹ 80 crore.

Mr. Nageshwara Rao urged the officials to enhance the department’s prestige by completing the projects within time and with utmost quality. The department, which had earlier earned itself a name by taking up construction of all government buildings, was neglected during the previous regimes, he said. Each department has started to take up the construction of its own buildings, which led to criticism owing to inexperience. After the Telangana government came to power, it has reposed faith back in the R&B department and as per the instructions of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, the prestigious projects are being entrusted to it, Mr. Nageshwara Rao said.

He assured that the vacancies in the department will soon be filled up. Already, 106 Assistant Engineer posts have got the stamp of approval from the Chief Minister, and the rest too will be filled up soon.

Deserving officials will get promoted, and also there will be recognition for good work. At the same time, Mr. Nageshwara Rao warned, that those neglecting their duties will not be spared. Engineers-in-chief Ganapathi Reddy and Ravinder Reddy and Chief Engineer Chandrashekhar Reddy and other officials participated.
